Maseru, Mar. 06 — A historic moment unfolded as young individuals from various Higher Learning Institutions engaged in a dialogue with King Letsie III addressing pressing issues affecting them.
Clad in white t-shirts branded with the slogan ‘Kaofela re Chabana sa Khomo’ and displaying national flags symbolizing the unity of the nation over the past 200 years, the youth seized the opportunity to voice their concerns.
Rethabile Khomo, in an interview, highlighted the significance of this initiative, emphasizing its unprecedented nature in the history of Lesotho.
He expressed optimism that the platform signifies a new era for the country, allowing the youth to actively engage with King Letsie III.
Mosa Lethibelane echoed this sentiment, expressing gratitude for the opportunity presented to them.
She articulated a sense of hope for the future, believing that their voices will lead to tangible improvements in addressing the challenges faced by Higher Learning Institutions.
Both individuals stressed the importance of addressing the challenges encountered by higher education institutions, expressing confidence that their concerns will be heard and addressed in this dialogue with King Letsie III.
They expressed their inability to continue their studies without resorting to striking for sponsorship money, a critical issue that has not yet been addressed.
This lack of financial support has not only impeded their academic progress but has also resulted in tragic incidents, with some students losing their lives during strikes.
Additionally, they raised concerns about courses that no longer align with the demands of the job market.
