YOU NEVER NEEDED LAWYER-PROSECUTION

Maseru, June 18 — Legal representative for the prosecution in an ongoing Mohale Dam Murder Trial, Advocate Motene Rafoneke has told one of the accused, Captain Mahlehle Moeletsi, that there was never a time when he needed a lawyer during investigation of the case.

This he said during cross examination of the accused who was testifying as one of the defence witnesses in a trial within trial. The accused had testified that while in police custody in September 2017, he requested to see his lawyer several times, but the police refused.

Adv. Rafoneke told the accused that if ever there was a time when he needed the lawyer, he would have told some of his family members who visited him while still in the police custody.

He further told him that he was never assaulted by the police because if he was, he could have informed his visitors or a magistrate before whom he made a confession but he did not. He added that he did not even mention it on a detention form when he was released from police custody.
