Maseru, Mar. 18 — A major boost to water management initiatives in Lesotho, saw the World Bank’s Lead Water Supply and Sanitation Specialist, Mr. Miguel Vargas-Ramirez, officially hand over a suite of advanced Non-Revenue Water (NRW) and laboratory support equipment to the Water and Sewerage Company (WASCO). Along with three new Toyota GD6 twin-cab vehicles, the equipment aims to enhance the capabilities of WASCO in managing water supply and sanitation more effectively.
The laboratory equipment, valued at $228,000, includes state-of-the-art data capturing tools, information and laboratory management software, and a range of analytical instruments designed for various applications.

According to Mr Vargas-Ramirez, this investment will not only broaden the analytical scope but also provide real-time process control results, minimize the need for human intervention, and ensure timely assessments. Furthermore, it will support WASCO’s preparations for achieving ISO 17025 accreditation for its laboratory.
Additionally, the NRW department has been equipped with advanced technology worth approximately M57 million, encompassing vehicles; office furniture, portable pressure and flow data loggers, and digital clamp-on flow meters. The timely acquisition of these tools aligns with WASCO’s ongoing strategies to minimize water losses across its operating centers. . . .
