WOOL, MOHAIR GROWERS PREPARING FOR NATIONAL AGRICULTURAL SHOW

Thaba Tseka, Mar. 06 — Thaba Tseka Wool and Mohair Growers Association Chairperson says they have already conducted Agricultural Shows in 10 woolsheds.

Mr. Telang Mohapi stated in an interview with the Agency on Wednesday that they have seven woolsheds that are expected to hold their shows before next Thursday.

According to Mr. Mohapi, on March 19 they will be holding the final agricultural show and thereafter, will be preparing for the national show.

He said they are expected to compete nationally on May 24.

Responding to how they will fare this year, he was reluctant to respond as he said he has not been part of the shows that have been held in other woolsheds and therefore, finds it hard to comment.

He said in 2023, they were position one and are hoping to become the overall winner in 2024.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mohapi had stated that for income-generating purposes, they are currently busy with the construction of a Hall and a few rooms which will be used to accommodate farmers who will be expected to pay for their stay.

He said the expectation was to finish the building before the end of March but due to unforeseen circumstances, they are expecting its completion at a later stage.

He also stated that some of the farmers who have sold their wool and mohair to BKB are already receiving their paychecks and the expectation is that by the end of April, everyone that sold will have gotten their checks.

Reports indicate that in 2019 as of March, close to 30,000 farmers were involved in wool and mohair production in Lesotho, with revenues ranging between M200 and M300 million annually.
