Mafeteng, October 14–King Letsie III says water is important in all living things and environment where human beings are no exception as they need water on daily basis to perform various activities such as irrigating cultivated plants for their healthy growth.
He was speaking at the International World Food Day held at Sekameng within Kolo Resource Centre on Friday where he said even though water is life it is very unfortunate that majority of Basotho do not have access to clean water,.
His Majesty said the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition is about to complete irrigation policy which is intended to guide in proper use of water and plants irrigation.
King highlighted that the Government of Lesotho has signed memorandum of understanding with America through Millennium Challenge Corporation to strengthen production of plants through irrigation system due to climate change whereby there are less rainfalls or totally no rains, indicating that they are expecting to see increased production to fight poverty and hunger being the major challenge right now.
