TB RESPONSE MUST REMAIN GLOBAL PRIORITY – WHO

Maseru, Mar. 21–Despite funding constraints and shifting global priorities, the commitments made by heads of state at the 2023 United Nations High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on the fight against TB to mobilize at least US$ 22 billion annually by 2027 for the TB response must remain a global priority, World Health Organisation (WHO) Director General says.

Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus says 79 million people have been saved from dying from tuberculosis (TB) since 2000. He made the comment on Thursday as the health organisation was marking World TB Day.

Ghebreyesus indicated that the progress made in recent years to secure political commitment towards ending the TB epidemic risks being halted by diverted global priorities and unprecedented funding challenges…
