Maseru, Mar.18 — Stakeholders from various sectors in the country, on Tuesday had an opportunity to scrutinise the Strategic Plan for the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) during a validation workshop held in Maseru.
According to a draft of the Strategic Plan, the DCEO has made notable progress in the fight against economic crime. It states that the institution has developed various strategies to engage local communities in the fight against financial crimes.
The draft shows that due to political conditions and the current leadership’s mobilisation efforts, the institution has managed to expand its capacity. It adds that it has made strides in collaborating with law enforcement agencies and other local institutions. It further adds that while technology penetration within the DCEO remains limited, the institution has taken measures to improve the usage of data to inform strategic direction.

The document however shows that despite the progress made, the DCEO has faced barriers in implementing its strategic priorities. It states that although there is a strategy steering
Committee, non-implementation remains common. It adds that while the DCEO has expanded its capacity, some capacitation issues remain outstanding. . . .
