SENATOR KANETSI CALLS FOR OVERHAUL OF LESOTHO’S EDUCATIONAL CURRICULUM

Maseru, Aug. 28 —  Senator ‘Mawinnie Kanetsi today tabled a motion in the Senate urging the government, through the Ministry of Education and Training in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, to review the educational curriculum with a focus on vocational schools.

In her address, Senator Kanetsi highlighted the alarming unemployment rate among young people, stressing the need to upgrade vocational schools as a key measure to combat this issue.

She highlighted that the current educational system in Lesotho is outdated and no longer align with the demands of the labor market, resulting in graduates who are job seekers rather than job creators.

Senator Kanetsi pointed out that many young Basotho with skills from vocational schools are overlooked due to a lack of certification, which prevents them from qualifying for jobs, particularly in large projects like Polihali, which requires certified carpenters, electricians, and other skilled labor.
