Botha-Bothe, March 17 — LOSAI Consultancy, a company from Kenya, in collaboration with the Environmental Health Department in Botha-Bothe, is conducting workshops on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for 84 schools in the district.
District Environmental Health Manager, Ms. Kananelo Taoana stated that the objective of the Training of Trainers workshop is to educate students and teachers who will lead and revive WASH clubs in schools. This initiative comes ahead of the Lesotho Lowlands Water Development and Sanitation Project Phase III (LLWDP III), which will provide toilets for schools and public places in the district.
“Education is crucial before infrastructure development takes place so that people understand how to use the facilities properly, ensuring their longevity and fostering appreciation for them,” she said.
Ms. Taoana further emphasized that participants are expected to return to their schools as WASH ambassadors, promoting behavioral change in sanitation and hygiene. “They will establish WASH clubs in their schools and work to shift mindsets toward proper hygiene standards,” she added. ML/TL
