ROAD FUND CEO ELECTED CHAIRPERSON

Maseru, Mar 6 — The Road Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Nkekeletse Makara has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Road Funds regional body known as ARMFA Southern Africa Focal Group.

He was elected during the recent meeting held in Lusaka, Zambia.

According to Road Fund Public Relations Manager Mrs. Phumla Moleko, election of Mr. Makara is a great achievement and creates an opportunity for the Road Fund in Lesotho to be part of the Executive
Committee of the regional body for another two years as he served as the Vice Chairperson of ASAFG in the past two years.

She indicated that Mr Makara thanked the ASAFG members for entrusting him with the mammoth task, expressing his commitment to perform to the best of his ability to lead for growth and betterment of ASAFG.

She said he also learned a lot of things during his tenure as Vice Chairperson, adding that the Sourthnen Africa Focal Group is one of the strongest in Africa and this is due to the solidarity that reigns within the member countries.

She further said Mr. Makara concluded by urging the region to unite and ensure value for money in undertaking their mandate to finance maintenance of roads within their various countries and within the region.

Meanwhile Mr. Makara will serve for a period of two years and he succeeds the Road Fund Mozambique CEO Professor Angelo Macuacua.

The meeting was attended by Angola, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zambia. This was the first ASAFG meeting in 2023 convened with the purpose to jointly prepare for the upcoming Annual General
Assembly to be hosted in Maputo, Mozambique from April 03 to 06 this year.

The meeting is convened under the mother body known as African Roads Maintenance Funds Association (ARMFA) through the Southern Africa arm known as ASAFG Southern AFrica Focal  Group.

The ASAFG is hosted at least twice a year and it rotates amongst members. It is the platform for collaboration and concerted efforts amongst members, the last ASAFG meeting was hosted by Road Fund in Angola.
