Maseru, Feb. 13 — Retired Major General Lineo Poopa has taken a stand in the ongoing treason trial to testify as a state witness.
In his evidence he stated that on the morning of August 30, 2014 he received a call from the late Major General Motsomotso, who indicated that there was a directive which needed them to report at Ratjomose Barracks wearing camouflage.
He testified that when they got there they went to the office of retired army commander Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli and found him with Major Ramoepana, adding that Kamoli told them that there was an ongoing operation intended to disarm the police.
The witness pointed out that Kamoli indicated that he received intelligence that the police were going to give weapons to members of the All Basotho Convention (ABC) to cause havoc saying that Kamoli also told them that he was going to town to get government leaders and take them to the King for reprimanding. He indicated that the leaders at that time were Motsoahae Thabane, Thesele Maseribane and Mothetjoa Metsing who is one of the accused in the matter.
