Mafeteng, March 06 — Mafeteng District Administrator (DA), Mr. Motinyane Motinyane says planning is important as it provides systematic way of viewing problems while at the same time developing short or long term solutions.
He said this when addressing participants at a four-day District Anticipatory Action Plan training held at Mafube Guest House where he called on the attendees to ensure that they participate for the benefit of the nation.
Mr. Motinyane reminded the attendees to fully participate in this training which commenced on Monday saying they have been invited purposely hence they should contribute positively towards the outcomes of training.
Speaking at the same occasion, the District Disaster Manager Ms. ‘Mamonyaku Koloti said the purpose of the training is to remind attendees about the Anticipatory Action Plan and provision of knowledge on what triggers drought as well as how drought data collection could be done in the district.
She said each Ministry should ensure that by the end of the training, it contributes in making a plan that is intended to protect the community’s lives in all forms against any hazard.
On the other hand, Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Food Insecure Population in Lesotho Officer, Mr. Mafamo Phoolo said the project which is operating in the Southern District of Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek and Quthing is focused on drought only, not anything else .
Mr. Phoolo said the Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Food Insecure Population in Lesotho has three components namely capacity building on early warning issues and weather focused, communication on climate change issues and education of community on climate change including resilience, clarifying that as for this training they are going to stick on component one only.
Mr. Kuroane Phake also from Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Food Insecure Population in Lesotho said weather forecast is important as it predicts future actions in relation to climate change issues even though there are some people who are not following the predictions instead they rely on historical background from their elders of which sometimes they win while on the other hand fail.
He however said for a long time people did not trust information provided by the Lesotho Meteorological Services through weather forecast, saying from now his department is able to provide weather forecast from three days to a week ,and to six months period, urging members of the community to rely on information provided by Lesotho Meteorological Services for better results.
Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable Food Insecure Population in Lesotho is the project of the government of Lesotho supported by World Food Programme through management and financial support.
