OVER 600 UNCOLLECTED IDS PILE UP AT NICR

Qacha’s Nek, Jan. 23 — The Department of National Identity and Civil Registration (NICR) Director under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, HomeAffairs and Police, Mr. Tumaki Mahao, has revealed that over 600 Identity Documents (IDs) cards printed between December 2024 and January 2025 remain uncollected.

Speaking to the Agency, Mr. Mahao expressed concerns that many of the unclaimed IDs likely belong to individuals working in South Africa.

“Our system had printing challenges, which I believe led to these IDs being left behind.

Normally, people return home at the end of the year, but these delays cause further issues, as IDs often get misplaced due to our limited storage space,” Mr. Mahao explained.

“In some cases, we can no longer locate them, resulting in a loss of government property.”

Adding to the challenge, he highlighted that staff turnover creates further complications. . .
