MPs URGED TO HANDLE LHDA ISSUE WITH CARE

Maseru — The Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane urged Members of the House to confront the issue of not allocating the proposed budget for Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), rightfully and interrogate it so that they could have a full understanding when the House makes decisions for the benefit of Basotho.

These, after the Leader of Lesotho Congress (LCD) for Democracy Mr. Mothejoa Metsing moved a motion to delete recommendation 5.17 of the report on the budget and estimates for 2025/26, which provides that the Ministry of Natural Resources proposed a budget amounting to M424.9 Million for LHDA, should not be allocated with the exemption of personal emoluments as the Ministry has failed to provide the documents required by the Parliamentary Committee during the 2025/26 budget analysis presentations.

Mr. Metsing said the recommendation must instead be substituted with the Ministry’s institute, within two months, a legal action against officers who are not willing to produce the documents which are required by the Portfolio Committee on Natural Resources.

The LCD Leader urged MPs to bear in mind and respect the agreement between Lesotho and South Africa through a treaty that was signed. . .
