MOET HOLD AWARENESS ON THE NEW POLICY

Mokhotlong, Feb.20 — Ministry of Education and Training held an awareness workshop on the new Policy on  Basic Education Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools, as a way of assisting learners in adapting to digital technology.

Miss Lieketseng Makibi from the Lesotho Distance Teaching College, Department of ICT, mentioned the importance of the Basic Education ICT Policy 2024, emphasized that it is of great assistance to both teachers and students, in a workshop held on Thursday.

The objective of this policy is to ensure that technology is available from Early Childhood Care and Development to secondary schools, she stated.

She also mentioned that disabled children are not excluded from this policy, as they can learn from home.Regarding the strategies that ICT will employ, she said there is a need for equipment, buildings, and electricity for the policy to run smoothly.

For schools that already have computer laboratories, the Ministry will provide assistance where needed.Ms. Makibi stated that for schools located in remote areas, the Ministry collaborates with other organizations to assist with items like solar spans which consist of three tables to be used as a library.

She further explained that this equipment is currently available only in primary schools but is meant for everyone in the community to use. . .
