MINISTRY’S BUDGET TO BE CUT OFF

Maseru, Mar. 04 — The M600,000, which the Ministry of Gender, Youth and Social Development fails to account for will be deducted from the money it was allocated in 2025/26 financial year if reconciliation amount is not presented.

This was disclosed by the Portfolio Committee on Social Cluster Member, who is also the Public Accounts Committee Chairperson, Mrs. Machabana Lemphane Letsie in an interview with the Agency, as the committee continues to consider the 2025/2026 annual estimates before reporting back to the National Assembly.

Mrs. Lemphane Letsie said the Ministry failed to present the reconciliation amount before the Portfolio Committee on Social Cluster at the meeting held last Friday, after the Ministry’s Internal Auditor indicated that the M600,000 remained when paying old age pension from January to September 2023 but is untraceable.

“The Ministry even failed to present the bank receipts or any bank transaction as proof of where the money was taken to,” she said, indicating that they believe the money is more that M600,000 based on a time frame from 2023 to date…RL/TL
