MINISTRY OF EDUCATION CLOSES BESP

MASERU — Basic Education Strengthening Project (BESP), which commenced in February 2022 and was initiated by the World Bank to the government in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has ended.

According to the information from MOET, BESP has achieved notable progress in improving student retention, enhancing teaching quality, and supporting the rollout of a new curriculum, particularly in Early Childhood Development (ECD), with key accomplishments.

It indicates that these key accomplishments include a decrease in dropout rates, especially among vulnerable students, indicating that a significant number of students, particularly girls, have benefited from tuition fee top-ups through the Child Grant Program, supporting their continued education.

It adds that the project contributed towards enhanced ECD curriculum implementation as it has successfully piloted and rolled out a new ECD curriculum, training a large percentage of ECD teachers on its implementation. LR/TL
