MINISTER PUTS PRESSURE ON DMA, DA, MPs

Botha-Bothe, Feb. 15 — The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Limpho Tau, has urged the District Disaster Management Office (DMA), the District Administrator (DA) and Members of Parliament (MPs) in Botha-Bothe to intensify efforts in building more houses for vulnerable people affected by heavy rains, strong winds and storms.

Speaking at a handover ceremony for two houses in the district, Mr. Tau emphasized that Botha-Bothe had only managed to build two houses this financial year, while some districts had constructed more than 10. He called on government officials to identify more vulnerable individuals in need of housing so that, by next year, the number of houses handed over would be significantly higher.

“The DMA has the responsibility to ensure that people are safe from disasters and are equipped to be resilient. When disasters occur, it is also their duty to respond swiftly and restore people’s dignity,” he stated.

Recalling a visit to the district last winter, Mr. Tau said he was taken by the local MP to see homes that had been severely damaged by heavy rains.
