MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS CALL FOR DECEASED MINERS RELATIVES TO CONDUCT DNA

Maseru, Feb. 11 — Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane has called for all Basotho nation in assisting with identification of Basotho who tragically lost their lives in Stilfontein disused mine in Klerksdorp, South Africa (SA) late last year.

According to recent Operation on Stilfontein Mine, it is alleged that some of the deceased illicit miners may be from Lesotho, a number of 1905 illegal miners are arrested while 88 resurfaced dead besides the deceased are in a state called the advanced stage of decomposition hence makes the identification process complicated.

Furthermore, the Minister recommended families with relatives and friends in the Stilfontein or Klerksdorp area who are suspecting that their loved one might be among the deceased of Stilfontein tragedy to urgently provide the DNA samples to help the authorities with the identification process.

In conclusion Basotho are notified that the operation of the identification process will be conducted by the Forensic Team on Thursday, Feb.13 between 09:00 am to 15:00 pm and will be carried out on Friday, February 14 between 08:00 am to 15:00 pm.
