Maseru, Mar. 24 — The Ministry of Law and Justice spends about M14 million annually to feed inmates.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Law and Justice, Mr. Richard Ramoeletsi in the National Assembly when requesting M372 439 777 from the Committee of Supply for 2025/26 financial year.

Mr. Ramoeletsi said to solve this problem, the Ministry advised itself to engage in farming, disclosing that at least 227 hectares of beans and maize were planted at Ha Makhoathi, Maseru and that they are intending to plant over 400 hectares in the upcoming financial year.

“We would save at least 75 percent of the money if we engage in farming,” he said. He further stated that with the budget requested, they intend to rehabilitate Qacha’s Nek, Quthing, Berea, Mokhotlong, Female and Juvenile Prisons.
