Maseru, July 04 – Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS)’s Chief Officer Bokang Ramotena from Para Legal Office says there are currently 77 men and three women who are mentally ill in the Forensic Unit detention.
Chief Officer Ramotena told the Agency on Thursday that these mentally ill inmates were arrested for having committed offences but were transferred to the Forensic Unit at Lepereng awaiting the mercy of King Letsie III, who normally releases them on his birthday.
Furthermore, he said there are a total of 2279 inmates in all the Correctional Institutions countrywide 81 of which are young men while 10 of them are young women, with men constituting a total of 2024 and 84 women. . .
