Mafeteng, March 04 — At least seven thousand people from four villages established with Metsi-Maholo Community Council are currently accessing clean water following completion of maintenance of hand pumps this month.
The maintenance of hand pumps started early January and ended in early February.
In an interview with the Community Council’s Secretary Ms. Palesa Mokotjo said the project has been carried out with the funds which is estimated to M350,000 from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftainship, Home Affairs and Police through Development Fund intended to ensure implementation of developmental activities within district Community Councils where there is a need.
She highlighted that the majority of these hand pumps have been broken for some years back without being maintained as a result of shortage of funds whereby young females and women had to travel long distances to fetch water from unprotected springs that posed a threat to consumers and a risk of being assaulted or sexually abused.
