MCCI COMMANDER EXPECTED TO LEAD SEARCH – NTHAKO

Maseru, Sept. 20 — Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) Commander was expected to be in charge of the search exercise that was conducted at the institution on December 22, 2023 not the recruits.

This was disclosed by Correctional Staff Training School (CSTS) Commander Assistant Commissioner Nthako when testifying before the Commission of Inquiry, on the above mentioned search which resulted in the assault of inmates, leaving Tlotliso Bereng paralysed.

Ass. Comm. Nthako said they released the recruits with the understanding that they were going to assist the  Officer Commanding (OC) MCCI as he knew the places that had to be searched.

“I thought we were assisting the OC, the same way we did during the search exercise that was conducted on  November 24 , December 18 and 20, 2023 at Central and Lepereng respectively,” he explained.
