Maseru, Nov.07—With Lesotho Exemption Permit (LEP) scheduled to expire on December 31 this year, Home Affairs Principal Secretary says the governments of the two countries are still in talks regarding the matter.
LEP has replaced the Lesotho Special Permit (LSP) which expired on December 31, 2019. An estimated 90 314 Lesotho nationals are on the permit which allows them to live, work and study in South Africa legally.
In an interview on Tuesday Mr. Tumelo Raboletse acknowledged that the LEP is expiring next month but said the two governments are in talks to find an amicable and long lasting solution to this.
He indicated that two months ago during the South Africa-Lesotho Bi-National Commission (BNC), the expiry of the LEP was discussed therefore assuring LEP holders and Basotho at large that the issue is being dealt with and once they have completed they will be notified. . .
