Maseru, Feb. 24 — Advocate Motiea Teele (KC), one of the defence lawyers in an ongoing treason trial says the people who were against Mr. Mothetjoa Metsing in politics, weaponized the legal system against him.
This he said during cross-examination of Lance Sergeant Shaabe Thamae, a member of the Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS).
The witness had among others testified that one of the army members who invaded the Police Headquarters in August 2014 asked him and his colleagues whom they had held hostage, where a docket on charges against Mr. Metsing was kept. He added that they also asked them who was an investigator of the case.Adv. Teele told the witness that there was never a docket on the alleged charges. He pointed out that the issue was a political game intended to malign Mr. Metsing by his political partners. He said they accused him of corruption and fraud of M53 million with the aim to destroy him politically.
