LEC TARIFF INCREMENT UNFAIR – PUBLIC

Maseru, Apr. 01 — With the recent announcement of Lesotho Electricity Company (LEC) being bankrupt due to alleged misuse of funds, members of the public strongly feel that it is unfair for the Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority (LEWA) to have given the power company green light to increase tariffs.

As of today (Tuesday April 01), the new electricity tariff increase of 9.6286 percent is implemented.

Speaking in an interview, one Mrs. ‘Maselloane Sekhobe said that with the issues surrounding the electricity company, LEWA should not have approved the tariff increment saying that it should have first ordered the company to address the issue of bankruptcy.

She said that it should also order the electricity company to find strategies to recover money like cutting the workers’ benefits which include among others free electricity. AT/TL
