Maseru, Apr. 16 — The current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Lesotho Communications Authority (LCA) Mr. Nizam Goolam has on Tuesday taken a stand against his predecessor Advocate Mamarame Matela in a case in which the company is demanding that she returns its properties which she took with her when she left office.
In his evidence in chief, Mr. Goolam stated that on June 03 2021 he received a letter from the Minister of Communications appointing him as Acting CEO, subsequent to the suspension of Adv. Matela. He indicated that after he had informed her of the new developments, he went to her office in the company of two security guards to request her to vacate the office. He pointed out that he requested the company of the security officers because she had earlier, in their conversation, argued that her suspension was illegal.
He testified that when he got to the office of Adv. Matela, she was with Mr. Motanyane Makara who was Chairperson of the Board of Directors-LCA. He said Adv. Matela insisted that the letters of appointment and suspension were not legitimate. He indicated that he told her to take that up with the author of the letters who was the Minister of Communications.
