Mohale’s Hoek, Nov. 27 — The Life Skills Based Sexuality Education (LBSE) which was introduced by the Ministry Of Education And Training at secondary level has brought mixed feelings, with the District Education Manager (DEM) and some principals calling it a success story with minor obstacles, while others called it a disaster.
In an interview with the Agency, the District Education Manager Mrs. ‘Maposholi Posholi has called the curriculum a success story rated at 90%, with the challenge being parents who expressed it would only encourage bad behaviour in their children, and also that it remains taboo to talk about some issues within the curriculum.
DEM further stated that most High Schools have managed to introduce the curriculum effectively, but however in some schools learners are reported to have felt the need to explore sexual activities leading to the increased cases of Early And Unintended Pregnancy, citing in about three primary schools in the district, learners in grade six and seven aged under 17 have been impregnated by married men who took advantage of victims whose parents are in RSA. . .
