Maseru, July 03 — Correctional Officer Moteki Mohale says Knobkerrie is prohibited at Maseru Central Correctional Institution (MCCI) and there is no way he assaulted a military detainee with it.
This he said when cross examining one of the military detainees, Mr. Liphapang Sefako before the Commission Of Inquiry on the escape of inmates after Sefako told the commission that Mohale assaulted him with a Knobkerrie during the general search exercise that was conducted at the institution on December 22 last year.
Correctional Officer Mohale said Knobkerrie is prohibited at the institution as a matter of law, saying there will be no footage of him entering the institution’s gate with a Knobkerrie.
He therefore said Sefako was falsely implecating him as he never met or searched the latter on the above-mentioned date.
‘I put it to you that you are lying before the Commission ‘ he said.
However, Sefako said he had no reason to implicate him as he knows him very well and chatted with him a couple of times because he plays football very well.
He added that he was a colleague of Mohale ‘s father hence he was surprised when Mohale assaulted him with a Knobkerrie because they never had any differences.
‘You surprised me Mr. Mohale, what have I done to you? He asked.
On the other hand, Senior Superintendent Martin ‘Molaoa denied that he refused military detainees who sued the institution including Mr. Sefako to be taken for medical attention after being assaulted on grounds that they will go through a court order.
Meanwhile Correctional Officer Mohale and Senior Superintendent ‘Molaoa are due to testify before the Commission on the incidents of December 22 last year.
