Thaba Tseka May 21 — Thaba Tseka inmates have expressed gratitude to the Lesotho Red Cross Society for equipping them with First Aid basics.
This they stated in an interview with the Agency on Tuesday where they stated that it is crucial training as they have learnt how to treat emergencies while they await the hospital’s help.
They said they are going to also use what they learnt after serving their time at home to educate their families and their communities.
They also indicated that as they stay in large numbers it is going to be helpful as they will be able to assist one another adding that this kind of training brings hope to them that there is still life outside jail.
Superintendent Lelingoana Nkofu from LCS Thaba Tseka said as the institution they work towards rehabilitation of inmates and they are happy that when they leave they will have gained knowledge on different things.
He said that will help improve their lives.
Principal Rehabilitation Officer Mrs NKhopoleng Matobo said it is the first time they have the kind of training adding that it is essential to have one.
She said they have many people on their watch and anything that needs first aid could happen and with the skill provided, they have already conquered a lot of things.
“It is a lifetime knowledge that will apply even when they have been released and we are happy they will bring changes in their communities with what they have learnt,” she stated.
She thanked LRCS for volunteering to offer the training as they were not aware they could offer those services for free.
She promised they would make it a point to hold such sessions with the inmates to remind themselves what they learnt.
The institution is reported to have 129 inmates
