Maseru, May 21 — The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has written letters to 26 political parties demanding them to show cause why they cannot be de-registered as the commission is in a clear out mission.
IEC Public Relations Manager (PRM) Mr Tuoe Hantsi told the Agency on Tuesday that the show cause why letters want these political parties to comply with the rules and regulations like showing annual paid up membership and having an operational party office.
Mr Hantsi was unable to say how long the process of verification will undertake since the correspondence with the parties differ on the dates the letters were written.
Furthermore, he said at least 20 political parties have been de-registered, five of which have been de-registered since the beginning of this year alone.
