IACOV EMPOWERS OFFICERS

Mohale’s Hoek, Sept. 19 — District Home Economics Officers and Extension Officers from Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek and Quthing have completed a 4 day training on Income Generating Activities, courtesy of the Improving Adaptive Capacity of Vulnerable and Food Insecure Populations in Lesotho, (IACOV).

According to the Mohale’s Hoek District Home Economics Officer Mrs. ‘Maponts’o Molapo, they designed  energy saving devices like Wonder Bag Cooker, protective clothing and oven gloves among others, noting the aim is to train beneficiaries (Farmers) in the areas where IACOV is operating.

On the other hand, ‘Manthati Tohlang from Mafeteng asserted that these types of training is supposed to be held regularly to keep officers up to speed with the ever changing world of technologies, but due to budget constraints that seems to be impossible.

Mrs. Tohlang further asserted that farmers and extension officers need to be on the same page when dealing with the newly introduced methods of farming, noting they always find themselves behind farmers whom they are supposed to be supervising.

The training has been attended by about 28 Extension Officers inclusive of Economics Officers, and the efforts to find IACOV’s officers were futile.
