Mokhotlong, Feb.20 — It is the responsibility of public including herders to protect wetlands as they (wetlands) play a pivotal role in restoration of clean water.
This was said by the Minister of Natural Resources Mr. Mohlomi Moleko when speaking at the event organised by the Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) Unit under the Ministry of Natural Resources to mark World Wetlands Day at Lekhalong la Lithunya in Mokhotlong on Thursday.
Mr. Moleko said water is the source of life and there is need for all to protect wetlands so that the water stored at the wetlands can continue to fill the huge dams that Lesotho has and is continuing to construct to supply water locally and to other countries.

He stated that water can be used to promote various Agricultural activities that include fish farming hence the need to ensure protection of wetlands in the country.
He commended the Ministry of Environment, ICM Unit through its project called “Renoka” (We are a river) and other stakeholders in water and environment management for the efforts taken to create awareness of the public about the importance of protecting wetlands in the country.
