HEAVY RAINFALL KILLS LIVESTOCK

Mohale’s Hoek, Sept. 19 — Chief Hlomelang Teane of Shalane has confirmed that most farmers under his authority have lost their livestock due to heavy rainfall.

Mr. Teane noted this in an interview with the Agency, by asserting that the sheep were returning home from their grazing areas following their shearing, citing they may have been killed by cold weather as most of them are reported to have been in a gestation period.

He further articulated that some have lost about 12, others 15 with the highest loss being 35 sheep belonging to a villager from Mokhopa or Lefika-la-Ts’oene,  however the efforts to find Mr. Dangizane Seko who lost 15 have been futile.

On the other hand, Area Chief of Phamomg, Mr. Shoaepane Letsie confirmed that about 4 farmers from his area have also lost their livestock, one being Thabo Hlothoane who confirmed that he has lost 7 goats and 2 kids.

Mr. Hlothoane expressed his frustration due to the loss, by noting he is not feeling well physically and psychologically.
