Maseru, Mar.01– The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres has raised a concern about cuts in funding by the United States of America.
In his statement, he indicated that the cuts impact a wide range of critical programmes including lifesaving humanitarian aid support to vulnerable communities recovering from war or natural disasters as well as developments to fight against terrorism and delicit drug trafficking. He pointed out that the consequences will be especially devastating for vulnerable people around the world.
He stated that going through with the cuts will make the world less healthy, less safe and less prosperous. He thus expressed hope that the decision will be reversed.
Mr. Guterres said the UN is grateful for the leading role the United States of America has provided over decades. He said the generosity and compassion of the American people have not only saved lives, built peace and improved the state of the world, but have also contributed to the stability and prosperity that the Americans depend on.
