Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, has been appointed as the new Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, as announced during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
The Commonwealth made the announcement via its official Twitter account, saying: “today at #CHOGM2024, Commonwealth Heads of Government have selected the Hon Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, currently the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, as the incoming Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.”
Botchwey’s appointment comes after a competitive selection process, where she faced off against Lesotho’ former Minister of Trade and Industry and also former Managing Director of the United Nations (UN) Technology Bank of Least Developed Countries Mr. Joshua Phoho Setipa and Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mamadou Tangara. . .
