EMPOWERING WOMEN AS REFEREES IN FOOTBALL

Berea, Feb. 24 — As to break down barriers and stereotypes, the District Football Association (DIFA) takes into consideration training more women to be referees.

This was said by Mr. Lekhooa Thabaneng the President of DIFA Berea during an interview with the Agency on Monday.

Mr. Thabaneng said since they started with the training, this year they have more women than men and that shows growth of women in football, also indicating that they are going to work hard to maintain that number.

Meanwhile , Ms.Selloane Mphuthing a physical instructor at the District Football Association highlighted that historically the role of refereeing has been largely male-dominated, with women facing significant challenges to break into the field, she also added that even today there are people who do not understand Woman referees, however they are going to work hard to protect those young referees and make sure they are assisted with anything they need.
