ECONOMIC CLUSTER STATES EXPECTATIONS ON BUDGET

Maseru, Feb. 18 — With less than 24 hours before the Minister of Finance and Development Planning Dr. Rets’elisitsoe Mantlanyane delivers the 2025/2026 budget speech, the economic cluster expects the budget to disclose Lesotho’s status in economic growth amongst others.

Speaking in an interview with the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on the Economic and Development Cluster Mr. Sello Hakane, they are also expecting the budget to elaborate more on fluctuating revenue collection as well as the capital budget.

“Although I do not know what the budget entails yet, we are expecting it to address our capital status as it is always low, ” he added, saying the country relies on domestic and international loans thus if the United States (US) President, Mr. Donald Trump continues with his decision of suspending US foreign development assistance for three months, Lesotho’s budget might be affected.

“This will affect our capital budget as it will be lower although the US President made the above announcement when budget estimates were already in progress “he said.

He therefore said they expect the Minister of Finance to hint on this matter in her speech, saying if the above happens, the country will have to come up with financial planning and management skills. . .
