Butha-Buthe, Dec. 12 — Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara has reassured the Makhoakhoa community regarding the government’s decision to rename the road passing through their villages after United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
Addressing the community, DPM Majara encouraged them to see the renaming as a positive step, emphasizing that the gesture would attract tourism to the area. However, the decision initially met resistance, as the community had hoped the road would honor their late Chief Lethole instead.
Majara explained that Guterres’ visit to Lesotho is significant, as it makes Ha Maloi a historic location among the few African destinations chosen by the UN Secretary-General.
“I urge you, Makhoakhoa, to take good care of this road so that it serves you for years to come. Don’t wait for the government to maintain it when you see it needs attention,” she said.
