Berea, Sept 02 — District Child Protection Team (DCPT) Berea has called for stakeholder’s collaboration in ending Gender Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Children (VAC) in communities.
Berea DCPT Secretariat Mrs. Hape Ntili made the remarks during closure of GBV/VAC campaign which commenced with a procession from Sefikeng bus stop to Sefikeng High School under a theme, “Stop Gender Based Violence” on Saturday.
Mrs. Ntili said the purpose of hosting such awareness campaigns was mainly triggered by the escalating rate of abuse cases, and in most cases children and women become victims of such inhumane acts, therefore they saw a need to engage the community to join hands in creating a crime free environment.
She pointed out that abuse can have short- or long-term effects on the victim and it can also lower the dignity of the person, adding as for the affected children; they grow up filled with anger, hence the need to always strive for a peaceful and child friendly environment.
