Botha-Bothe, Dec. 04 — The Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO) has embarked on its journey leading up to the main event commemorating International Anti-Corruption Day on 8th December 2023, graced by the presence of Prime Minister Mr. Ntsokoane Matekane.
In her address, while rallying the community for the upcoming event this Friday, Mrs. Malimpho Moshoeshoe of DCEO emphasized that choosing Botha-Bothe as the venue is significant as the district will spearhead the opening of DCEO offices, setting the stage for other districts to follow suit.
Mrs. Moshoeshoe explained that the decision to celebrate the event in the district is aimed at raising awareness that crime is pervasive and that communities play a crucial role in combatting it. She highlighted the department’s commitment to educating the public about crime and empowering them to actively contribute to preventing crimes in their communities and the nation as a whole.
“Many of you may be familiar with the efforts DCEO has made in ensuring that those guilty of economic crimes are held accountable and that assets acquired fraudulently are recovered. We encourage you to report criminal activities that warrant our attention. With accurate information and supporting documents, we will thoroughly investigate the matter. Importantly, we want to assure the community that their safety is guaranteed when providing information,” she assured the gathered community.
Additionally, Mr. Litelu Ramokhoro from DCEO announced a series of events leading up to the main day. These include educational sessions for Heads of Departments, the business community, Civil Society Organisations, and the youth on economic crime and prevention strategies. This week, the community, along with leaders and DCEO officers, will plant 1000 trees in the district, symbolizing DCEO’s lasting impact on the country.
A cleaning campaign will also precede the main event, focusing on clearing the streets of Botha-Bothe. The event itself will kick off with an Anti-Corruption walk from Red A to Pitso Ground, featuring speeches and entertainment.
The theme for this year is “UNCAC at 20: Uniting the World Against Corruption for Development, Peace, and Security.”
