Maseru, Jan. 08 — Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersexed Questioning (LGBTIQ) community Faith and Religion Advocacy Officer says the church should accept people as they are without considering their sexuality as well as allow them to participate in church activities.
Dee Malelu said this in an interview on Monday following Pope Francis’ approving blessings of same sex couples in a statement released mid-December 2023. Though Malelu said that the Pope’s decision is a first step towards acknowledging the LGBTIQ community, the church still needs to accept and respect people as human beings first and let the judging be done by the Lord.
“The church should see and regard us people before they could see our sexuality. We should be seen as human beings only before being labelled because after all we are human beings like all other people,” stressed Malelu.
