Maseru, Mar.03—The People’s Republic of China Monday handed over 810 tons of rice and wheat consignment estimated to the value of M25 million to the government of Lesotho at the event held in Maseru.
The handover certificates were signed by Ambassador Yang Xiaokun together with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Mr. Lejone Mpotjoane in the presence of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Limpho Tau, Principal Secretary Foreign Affairs Mr. Thabang Lekhela, Disaster Management Authority (DMA) Chief Executive Mr. Reatile Elias and other government personnel.

In his handover remarks, Ambassador Yang said this food assistance is part of the package of assistance provided by the Chinese government to Lesotho which is a concrete manifestation of the long-term mutual support between their two countries sharing wealth.
He said the emergency food assistance demonstrates China’s commitment to keeping its promises and honouring its words in providing China Aid, saying China always upholds the principle of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in developing friendly ties with Africa.

“Food security has always been one of the priorities of practical cooperation between China and other African countries including Lesotho. China supports Lesotho and other African countries in eliminating hunger and achieving food security. Since 2016, except for the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese government has provided food assistance to the government of Lesotho every year and is willing to continue providing support within its capacity to address the urgent needs of the local people”, he said.
