Maseru, May 19 — Operators of the ‘Catch-a-ride’ Transport Association has pleaded with the government to come up with intervention measures that will enable them to operate freely.
This emerged in an interview with the Agency with one of the operators Mr. Lereko Lekoetje on Saturday.
Mr. Lekoetje indicated that ‘catch-a-ride’ is a legally registered association which has followed most registration processes including that of the Revenue Services Lesotho.
He stated that the endless fights between them and other taxi operators has been on-going for a long time which he said needs to come to an end as it is now life threatening as there are also physical fights.
He however mentioned that it is also important for the Police to ensure that they are well recognised at the road blocks as of late they are being stopped by people pretending to be police officers only to find that they are their attackers.
Meanwhile, Mr. Lekoetje mentioned that they still await the response from the Department of Traffic and Transport which is said to allow them with their operation in terms of an operation permit.
He said that their wish is for the said department to quickly work on the matter of the permit as many of them are in that business on purposes of earning a living as this country is faced with high rate of crime.
The ‘Catch-a-ride’ association was put into operation during the lockdown period where transport used to a struggle to many.
Since it’s operation and daily growth, endless fights have sparked up between operators of the transport and that of ‘catch-a-ride’.
