Maseru, Feb. 19 — The 2025/26 fiscal year budget presented earlier has just fuelled unemployment wounds upsetting Lesotho youth aged between 15 years and 35 years.
Some of those interviewed told the Agency they have just been reminded that not only their aspirations are postponed, but the future remains uncertain beyond bicentennial.
“Helpless and hopeless, stressful and depressed are some of the words that come to mind when I think of the many days, weeks, months and years on incurring costs applying for jobs but in vain,” a Social Work degree holder youth from the National University of Lesotho has said.
Thandiwe Khatakane stated that having been reminded by the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Dr. Retsélisitsoe Matlanyane that over 760 000 youth are unemployed while only 145 000 are employed has just added salt to the open wounds.
