BUDGET CONTROLLER REPORTS EXPENTIDURE TO THE FINANCER

Maseru, Feb.28 — The Millennium Challenge Account Chairperson and Budget controller Mrs. Maleshoane Lekomola says PEFA SA 2024 report is not about merely updating and presenting pillars scores in the report but aims at introspecting where there is need for improvement and where there is perfection.

These, she said at the handing over of Report of Public Expenditure and Finance Accountability Self-Assessment (PEFASA) 2024 to the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MoFDP) at Lehakoe Recreational Centre on Friday.

Mrs. Lekomola further said the exercise was participatory, which means assessment which was conducted in March 2024 by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and EU Technical Assistant (TA) project.

She stated that there are key factors they have learnt from this exercise which is that the previous assessment is important to the government and government ownership of PEFA findings is very crucial.

Mrs. Lekomola said systematic and participatory development of the data sector, in the previous PEFA assessment data was just collected and government officials were used as data collectors, but now they have been engaged by collecting.

Receiving the report on behalf of the ministry the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Ms. Nthoateng Lebona the report has made history compared to previously assessment where they received reports saying 200 pages reports and they were expected to implement and understand what is contained on those reports as well as the scores that they had no idea what it means. . .
