Maseru, Mar. 24 — The vibrant community of Basotho residing in Addis Ababa has taken major steps to support one of their own afflicted by lupus, a rare autoimmune disease.
The decision to assist Ms Tabile Malinyane, a patient battling this challenging condition was formalized during a farewell ceremony honoring Dr. Monaphathi Maraka, who has culminated his tenure as Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Lesotho to Ethiopia.
The call to action emerged from a poignant telephonic conversation where Ms. Malinyane, currently in Lesotho, shared her health struggles with attendees. Dr. Maraka’s dedication to health issues, coupled with his impactful contributions to the African Union Commission, including his work with the Africa CDC, made the occasion a fitting time to foster solidarity within the community.
The ceremony drew local Ethiopian staff and diplomats from various African Union Member States, including Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone, Angola and Uganda, highlighting the unity and collaborative spirit among the nations. LS/TL
