Maseru, April 12 — The Lesotho Standard Institution (LSI) in association with The African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) will host a two-day awareness raising session starting from April 15th to 16th at Lencers Inn Maseru.
The main objective is to conduct a joint awareness session with the Department of Quality, Metrology and Technical Regulations and the Lesotho Standards Institution to inform stakeholders about the benefits of using harmonized standards as tools for improving productivity in terms of quantity, quality, and safety is a quest to access the vast African Market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AIFTA).
Given the important of standards in facilitating intra-African Trade, especially in value-added production, as well promoting products quality and safety for consumers, everyone has a role to play, Regulators, private sector, consumers organisations, input suppliers and all other relevant stakeholders must join hands and establish mechanism to ensure the implementation of standard.
ARSO is an intergovernmental organization established in 1977 by the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU now the African Union) and the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) to harmonize standards and technical regulations across Africa ARSO plays a crucial role in promoting the adoption of African standards as a basis for national regulations, preventing technical barriers to intra-African and international trade.
