Botha-Bothe,Aug.04—Manamela community is crying foul over the abuse of alcohol by other villages which leads to fights and family feuds among villagers.
In an interview with the Agency, Chief of Manamela village, Chief Mafa Makoala said bars around the village operate all night long. He said this makes people consume alcohol all night and get home in the morning. He says this behavior affects many families as when they get home drunk they start fights.
He said some of these people, after consuming alcohol, enter people’s homes and steal from them. They rob shops and people’s belongings
“I have on several occasions talked to the bar operators but do not understand the complexity of the matter as they are on business”, said chief Makoala.
On the one hand, one of the villagers, Mr Ts’enyane Mothosele indicated that in some families, spouses go out to drink together and when they get home they start fighting. He said last week the chief’s council was resolving a matter where a woman had beaten her husband. He said what he realises is that alcohol perpetuates gender based violence and poverty in the families.
Botha-Bothe Mohlomi Hospital will on Saturday August 12 2023 hold a drugs and alcohol abuse awareness for adults and the youth from the ages of 12 years. This is after the realization that many people especially the youth get admitted in the hospital because of the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
