AFFIDAVIT, GAME OF DECEIT-LAWYER

Maseru, Apr. 02 — Advocate Karabo Mohau (KC), one of the defence lawyers in a case in which four army members are charged with attempted murder of former Editor of the Lesotho Times and Sunday Express newspapers Lloyd Mutungamiri, says an opposing affidavit filed by the police, when an accomplice witness in the matter applied for bail, was a game of deceit.

This he said on Tuesday during cross-examination of Mahanyane Phusumane who was testifying as an accomplice witness in the case.

The lawyer stated that the game was played by the witness and the police under oath, adding that they knew Phusumane was going to be a state witness.

He pointed out that the witness had agreed to become the accomplice witness during interrogations by the police. He added that he also confirmed that he was willing to testify on behalf of the state when he was in prison.
